This summer course is being developed in partnership with Vidcode (https://www.vidcode.com/). VHS will leverage Vidcode’s Creative Coding 1 content with our cohort-based, teacher-led online course model to create a 4-week, JavaScript coding experience. The course is for students with little-to-no coding experience; it will introduce them to essential foundations of computer science and basic programming while identifying how code connects to and enhances their existing interest.
Students will learn basic JavaScript with drag-and-drop blocks, slowly progressing towards text-based programming by the end of the course (https://about.vidcode.com/creative-coding-one). The course is aligned to the 2017 CSTA level 1B standards, which ranges from simple sequencing of commands through variables and arrays, to nested loops and conditionals. Students practice using these programming concepts in creative projects that emphasize self-expression, positive identity, and helping others.
*Students who plan to transfer credit from VHS Learning to their full-time high school should check with their school to confirm they will accept the credits before registering for a VHS Learning summer course.
