Description
Can you really learn something about history by reading Dr. Seuss? Yes, and if you take this course, you will! Challenge yourself to look beyond the simplicity. In World War II Through the Eyes of Dr. Seuss, you will encounter new stories, new questions, and new ways of looking at the works of Dr. Seuss. You will have many opportunities to share, create, and discuss interpretations of Dr. Seuss' works by merging your experiences with others: the author, his whimsical characters, and infamous historical figures, as you explore controversial topics, such as fascism, anti-Semitism, and racism.
Prerequisites
You will need to obtain the following Dr. Seuss books: Yertle the Turtle, The Sneetches, Horton Hears a Who, and The Butter Battle Book. You should be able to obtain copies of these books from your public libraries.

- Explore techniques used by political cartoonists.
- Utilize technology as an integral component of literacy and communication.
- Develop a background understanding of World War I.
- Improve reading and writing skills.
- Analyze artwork.

- Develop a sense of historical understanding of the Holocaust, Japanese Internment, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the American occupation of Japan.
- Investigate the influence of geographic location on political events.
- Interact and reflect with others in discussions.
