Description
Latin 3 is specifically developed as a pre-AP Latin literature survey course and will prepare Latin students to read, comprehend, and analyze various authors and genres of Latin literature, as well as their historical and political contexts. This course provides excellent preparation for successful completion, in the ensuing year, of the rigorous and lengthy AP Latin literature syllabus, as well as the SAT exam for Latin and the National Latin Exam, level III. This full year course emphasizes the reading, translation, and analysis of stylistic techniques as well as thematic analysis and comparison/contrast discussions with other authors and literary works. Oral readings and audio recordings in Latin will be included, as well as essays and class discussions conducted in English on relevant themes based on AP rubrics. Quarterly etymology activities will increase students' knowledge of their own language. Additional collaborative opportunities such as group projects and group wiki translations are essential components of the VHS Learning classroom.
In this Standard-level course, students are expected to invest approximately 6 hours per week on their coursework.
