Description
The OJSC is excited to be able to offer an abridged version of our Digital Citizenship and Jewish Values online course. This course is for students in the Online Judaic Studies Consortium (OJSC). If you are not an OJSC student but are interested in taking this course, please contact Lisa Micley at ([email protected]) to discuss your options. This introductory course is a great way to be introduced to online learning and begin their OJSC program of study. The facilitated course will only require students to complete approximately 1.5 hours of work per week. Today’s students are growing up with a vastly different relationship to technology than experienced by previous generations. In the modern world, social and academic experiences for young people are deeply entwined with the Internet and digital media, and many students are spending a significant amount of time online every day. What are the best ways for today’s students to navigate this brave new digital world? And what might the wisdom of Jewish sages and Jewish texts teach modern day Jewish day school students about ethical and safe online behavior? Digital Citizenship and Jewish Values will help students consider what it means to be a good digital citizen, and to explore the intersection between modern technology, Jewish texts and Jewish values. Understanding ethical and safety-related concerns of the Internet, making good choices online, and being responsible digital citizens are crucial skills and behaviors that need to be taught to--and practiced by--today’s students. Jewish day school students will find it especially meaningful to learn what Judaism has to say about the topics covered in this course. Each week will include an interactive discussion linking the theme and issues from the week's lessons to a Jewish text. The course is designed to help Jewish students view Digital Citizenship through a Jewish lens.
