Description
This flexible, credit recovery Algebra 1 course has adopted a competency-based math curriculum. This curriculum uses a personalized math readiness application designed to help learners test their Algebra 1 skills as well as gain a personalized learning path to fill in the knowledge gaps. Students will specifically cover topics such as the real number system, numerical and algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, relations and functions, polynomials and factoring, and an introduction to summarizing data. There will be an emphasis on solving real world applications using linear, quadratic and exponential models. The teacher will regularly communicate with students and provide additional assistance and feedback on coursework. Students may work at their own pace to complete the course, but students are expected to work approximately ten hours per week. Students are allowed to take up to 15 weeks to complete the course. This course covers a full year of Algebra 1 concepts for credit recovery; it does not cover an Algebra 1 curriculum with the same depth as a standard full year course. It is advised that you check with the student's school to confirm that the topics covered in the syllabus match those required by the school. It is also suggested to confirm with the school the process for receiving credits, which may involve an assessment administered separately by the school.
