Description
This is a flexible instructor-led credit recovery English 12 course. Instructors regularly interact with students and provide assistance and feedback on work. This course covers a full year of English 12 for credit recovery. Students may work at their own pace to complete the course, and may take up to 15 weeks to complete the course. This course is designed for students in grade 12.
This course will concentrate on three areas of study: literature, language, and writing. Our study of literature will concentrate on British Literature and will include short stories, poetry, nonfiction, and a self-selected novel. Students will increase their writing and language skills by working on improving vocabulary, grammar, and written communication. Writing assignments include: reflective writing, persuasive writing, and a comparison essay. All materials are online. There is a self-selected novel that students will find locally at their school or public library.

This course covers a full year of English 12 concepts for credit recovery; it does not cover an English 12 curriculum with the same depth as a standard full year course. It is advised that you check with the student's school to confirm that the topics covered in the syllabus match those required by the school. It is also suggested to confirm with the school the process for receiving credits, which may involve an assessment administered separately by the school.

Course Objectives
- Introduce students to origins of British Literature and specific historical, cultural, and literary design processes that have shaped these works
- Provide students with critical and analytical frameworks necessary to examine literature from a variety of time periods and socio-political perspectives.
Students will:
Be able to write with college level competency.
Be able to write and research competently, observing the conventions of Standard English.
Be able to appreciate and interpret fiction, poetry, and drama.
Have an understanding and appreciation for British Literature.
