This is a flexible instructor-led credit recovery Geometry course. Instructors regularly interact with students and provide assistance and feedback on work. This course covers a full year of Geometry concepts for credit recovery. Students may work at their own pace to complete the course, and may take up to 15 weeks to complete the course.
This Geometry course is written for students in grades 9-12. Students may complete the course in as many as fifteen weeks, as needed.
The course emphasizes the relationships among geometric figures and concepts and applies them to real world applications.
The concepts of points, lines, planes, parallel lines, congruence, similarity, polygons, coordinate geometry, area, volume, circles, and right triangle trigonometry will be explored. Students will apply logical thinking throughout the course, without an emphasis on formal proofs. Students are expected to have, and be able to use, solid algebra skills to solve problems in each topic area. Internet resources are used throughout the course to explore and instruct the topics presented.
There is no text for this course. All instruction materials are either provided in the course or located on content related websites. Geogebra, a free geometry software application, will be downloaded and used for constructions and investigations.
Students are expected to work approximately ten hours per week. The course will not cover a full year's curriculum with the same depth that is covered in a year-long course.
If the student is taking this course for credit recovery, it is advised that you check with the student's school to confirm that the topics covered (see course syllabus) match those required by the school. You may also want to confirm with the school the process for receiving credits, which may involve an assessment administered separately by the school.
During this course students will:
Use logical reasoning to identify and apply geometric properties.
Learn to communicate clearly and effectively.
Apply geometric concepts to real world applications.
Apply algebraic concepts in geometric topics.
