This course will examine the relationships between events in the twentieth century, the evolution of popular music, and the cultural messages that music displayed. The course begins with a look at how popular culture (be it art, theatre, literature, or music) has been "historical" in the past.
Students will examine the cultural impact of music from 1900 through the 1960’s and will examine lyrics and historical events, and analyze how lyrical content has changed over time.
The course will also examine the history of the recorded music and explore careers in the music industry.
