Description
This course is fifteen week introduction to the basics of Italian language and culture. The Italian people are passionate, expressive, and creative. Through history they have contributed to art and new thinking. During this course, students will study the language while learning about the people who speak it, their history, their interests and pastimes. Participants learn simple expressions to help introduce oneself, talk about likes and dislikes, family, order food, haggle with the open market vendors, take a train, and shop. Students will discover the beauty of Italian cities through video, listen to Italian nursery rhymes and pop music.
The course’s main objective is to inspire students to continue to learn the language and to one day experience the country.

Course Objectives
- To introduce students to Italian culture, traditions, and people.
- To introduce basic getting around town Italian.
- To involve and interest students, as well as provide a frame of reference for an Italian I course
- Speaking and reading survival Italian.
Additional Requirements
- Access to special characters specific to the language, including à, é, è, ì, ò, ù
- Access to a device with headphone, microphone, and camera.
- Students will be expected to record and upload videos of themselves speaking in target language in order to exhibit proficiency in the speaking domain using a video tool within the course platform.
